Intense storm rips across Iowa, knocking out power in places

DES MOINES - More than 200,000 customers of Iowa's two largest utilities were without power on Monday after a line of severe thunderstorms roared across the state with winds as high as 100 mph.

The storms moved from west to east, ripping up trees and power lines in its path.

IOWA CITY - The mother of the victim in an alleged sexual assault involving two University of Iowa football players says school officials pressed her daughter to keep the matter in house and avoid publicity.

Those officials include Athletics Director Gary Barta and coach Kirk Ferentz, according to a copyright story by the Iowa City Press Citizen.

Only one villain is known to have such a vibrant and exaggerated appearance: the Joker, Batman's arch-nemesis and quite possibly the most deserving of Batman's crime-fighting attention with his violent sociopathic and sometimes, if not always, murderous tendencies.

"The Dark Knight" transcends the typical "good versus evil" motif and takes viewers for a dark ride through the innermost caverns of human nature, where that line between right and wrong has never been so thin.

Vilsack joins Bill Clinton in Africa

DES MOINES - Former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack and his wife, Christie, will accompany former President Clinton on a weeklong trip later this month through Africa.

They will cap the trip with a stop in Mexico City for an international conference on AIDS in early August.
