Motions to rezone two properties, one on West Elting and one on North Albert streets, from one-family to two-family zoning, were denied by a 6-2 vote for the former and a 5-3 vote for the latter on Monday evening.
Tom Embry, owner of the property on W. Elting Street, previously asked the council to allow his home to be rezoned so he could have a housemate, claiming that other area residents were breaking this same zoning law.

Last week, CNN's Money Magazine named Ames as one of the top 100 best places to live in America.
Ames came in at No. 53 on the list of small cities with populations larger that 50,000. It was the only Iowa city that made the top 100.
The mayor of Ames, Ann Campbell, said she believed the city's amenities helped it make the list.

Colin Fury first held a gun when he was seven.
It was with his father at the George Bush shooting range in Bear Creek, Texas. Fury was so excited to shoot the paper target with a handgun.
As Fury grew older, he continued to be exposed to guns. He often went rabbit and pheasant hunting with his best friend.
